From the beginning, the Word of God contains His promise to His people, that He would be their God and they would be His people by faith. Throughout the story of the Word, the Lord’s tender care for His people is on display for all to see. The culmination of His promise is found in Jesus Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and ascension.
The Lord has promised to meet us each week through His Word and by His Holy Spirit. Our only comfort and hope are in this promise of God.
The Word of God reveals the complete and sufficient content of His people’s worship—the Word, the sacraments, and prayer. Just as the Lord promised salvation by grace alone through faith, it is by these means that we receive His grace: the ministry of the Word (read, sung, and preached), the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the prayers of God’s people.
Not only is the ministry of the Word sufficient for when we first believe, but regularly attending to the Word, especially preaching, nourishes, comforts, protects, and increases faith in the believer.
The Word of God builds His church. By His Word, the Lord gathers the body of Christ to fellowship with one another, receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, and joyfully await the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The church is God’s chosen means to gather His people from this world, receive His special care and protection, and to be preserved in all ages.
Providence Presbyterian Church is a reformed, evangelical congregation and a mission church of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. We affirm the historic Christian faith as taught in the Bible, the inerrant Word of God. We also believe the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms, as adopted by the OPC, are faithful summaries of Scripture’s system of doctrine.
Depending on the Holy Spirit, we look to establish a congregation that joyfully worships God as He shapes us by His grace in the ministry of God’s Word. If you are spiritually exhausted and seek rest; if you sin and need a Savior; if you hunger and thirst for righteousness; Jesus Christ offers you His grace. You are welcome here.
